Daryl Leong Kelvin Leung cofounders at uncommon ground and mentors for physiotherapists in Melbourne

Unique individuals.
Shared standards.

Uncommon Ground is 1-on-1 mentorship for
physiotherapists seeking deeper clinical clarity,
better patient outcomes, and a more intentional and rewarding career.

Who
Uncommon Ground
is for:

This is for you if:

  • You are an early to mid-career physio seeking direction

  • You want to improve your clinical decisions

  • You want to develop better patient retention

  • You want to hone private practice “soft skills”

  • You're thinking about your next step, or even your own clinic

Most physios don’t
lack effort.
They lack structure.

You’re busy. You’re seeing patients. But:

✕ You are inconsistent with clinical decisions
✕ Retention seems “hit & miss”
✕ Career direction is vague

This isn’t a knowledge issue.
It’s a lack of guided development.

What mentorship at
Uncommon Ground looks like:

Clinical clarity

Format:

1-on-1 sessions

Uncommon ground mentoring 1 on 1 meeting

Our mentoring sessions are mostly in person, at a comfortable location. We can also meet you via video call if that is more convenient for you.

Ongoing support

Uncommon ground mentoring support

We follow up with you between sessions to see how you’re going, and whether you need any additional support from us.

Built around your schedule

Uncommon ground mentoring flexible scheduling

We work around your schedule and plan in advance, so the sessions are always well-prepared.

What it feels like to work differently:

You stop guessing

Clinical decisions follow a structured thinking process. You know why you’re choosing a direction and how to adjust when things change.

Patients trust the process

They’re not just attending “the next appointment” - they understand where they’re going. That trust translates into better adherence, outcomes and retention.

Your work becomes structured, not reactive

Sessions follow a progression. You’re no longer improvising from appointment to appointment.

Your career has direction

Instead of drifting between roles or ideas, you’re working toward a defined path with intent.

You invest your time and energy more effectively

We don’t romanticise the “hustle & grind, 24/7”. We help you work out where you should devote your time and energy, and strike a work-life balance that is sustainable for you.

We are Daryl and Kelvin, two physiotherapists based in Melbourne. We have over 20 years of experience between us, and currently we are running our own private practices.

Over the years, we have been asked by many younger physios:
“what would you do in [this] scenario?”, and we’ve helped them gain better clarity, new ideas, and career objectives.

We’ve seen enough of the “hustle, grind, no rest days” mindset that permeates through modern work culture, and we want to bring a more grounded voice into the space. Our core belief is that:

We (you) first need to be well, in order to be happy and most effective at our craft.

So, we started this project to help more physios to do that too.

Why
Uncommon Ground?

We all come into this profession with our own personalities, interests and backgrounds. Each of us are unique and uncommon.

But our work demands a shared standard: clinical reasoning, patient-centred care, and we share similar drivers: career ambition, empathy, joy from seeing patients succeed; this is our common ground.

Uncommon Ground is where those meet, and where we can work together to become better.

Whether you are navigating difficult clinical cases, trying to improve patient retention, or figuring out the next stage of your career, we’re here to help you.

We work closely with a small number of physiotherapists at a time to provide practical, honest guidance.

If that sounds like something you’ve been looking for, book a call with us - we would love to meet you!
